So I was looking over the pictures from our presentations last week, and I particularly focused on my groups set of photos. I found the photo to the left really got me thinking. I really enjoyed watching everyone draw in their individual groups, but I especially enjoyed this group. They were the scribbling stage and definitely took that to heart. As they were drawing I overheard them say that they had to fight to not draw something specific, and I understood, because scribbling, when, at our age, we know of so many things to draw can be difficult. I noticed after that was mentioned that the way the group even held their markers changed. They began to take on what they know to be typical preschool, scribbling age behavior by holding the marker in their fists instead of as we have learned over the years to hold a pen, pencil or marker. This seemed to improve their abilities to complete the task without making set designs, and Chrissy went so far as to draw an "abstract" puppy. This exercise was particularly fun because watching the class take on the persona of their age group really improved their drawings, and made them more realistic to the age group they were placed in. I feel like after this activity where we allowed them to experience the different groups, they made more sense than they would have if we had just lectured.
